Most people want to take steps early on to ensure that their personal finance status will be secure when they retire, however few really understand what it takes to create a stock market portfolio that will be able to meet their financial needs when they retire। To create the best portfolio possible it is important that you educate yourself on how the economy impacts stocks, how to research a stock, and how to buy a stock.
The first step in making the stock market work for you is to understand how the economy impacts the performance of a stock। One thing that usually impacts the stock market is the federal interest rate. When federal interest rates go up spending tends to go down. On the other hand, if the federal prime rates go down spending tends to go up. By identifying items that impact the health and performance of the stock market, like interest rates, and by knowing how they will impact stock performance, you will be better able to judge when it is a good idea to sell a stock, and when it is a good idea to buy a stock.
The next step in making the stock market work for you is to learn how to research a stock। There are a lot of free research tools that you can use to learn about stocks. For example you can get stock quotes from a number of financial websites, as well as company information, financial reports, and stock reviews. Another way that you can learn about the stock market is to talk with a professional financial planner or stock broker. They will be able to provide you with information about the stock market and information about how to invest your money wisely.
The last step in making the stock market work for you is to learn how to buy and sell stocks। To make a stock investment you will need to first find a stock that you are interested in, set up an investment account with a stock broker or with an online stock broker, fund your account, and enter your stock order. When you are ready to sell a stock you either tell your stock broker to sell or you enter your sell request through your account with an online stock broker site.

Stock Field Gain
By Oluyomi Oluwale
The Telecommunication industry has become the highest revenue-generating instrument in our country after oil. It is creating jobs and business for many Nigerians by the day.
Every year, millions of dollars generated from the industry in Nigeria are carted away overseas by operators. Guess who is labouring and making calls to generate this money by the second , you dear Nigerians of course . With this money finding its way into the hands of investors in other country ,one cannot but wonder when it will get to our turn to take-profit from this endless wealth.
The question is, can this windfall find its way onto the floor of the stock exchange, yes of course it can, and that is what is trying to do by way of private placement. This offer is so big that Nigerian investor must come with empty vessels to grab their shares. But hold it! Don’t be in a hurry!
WHY THIS WEALTH MUST GET TO YOU
Because of the huge turnover being experienced in the telecom sector we have had the high and mighty struggling for board room position and major stake in the equities of these companies, this sector is highly priced and sought for. Definitely it is going to be a run for your money as even the rich will have to sweat to get a bit .
THE BATTLE FOR POSITION
Looking at the enormous wealth in the Telecom industry, the battle for share position has never been for the small, from the days of Econet wireless Nigeria to Vodacom to Vcom then Vmobile or is it Virgin mobile and finally the Asians, nobody is giving-up .That battle is still on with CELTEL, and high net worth individuals are not ready to let go soon .
The Telecom sector, especially the Global System of Mobile Communication (GSM), need a lot of funds because of the huge working capital needed, getting a cheap source of fund to carry out operations means more profit for investors.
A good example is MTN which has become the most profitable Telecom company quoted at the Johannesburg in South Africa stock exchange . It was not like this few years back, but the turn around came when the owners of this Telecom giant closed their eyes to harsh economic and political environment that beclouded the country and dared to set their feet on the Nigerian business terrain just for a short-term profit-taking venture, but beyond their wildest imagination, the Naira started rolling in by the minutes and later the rate of return on investment moved to per second.
With its profit crossing the borders right into the pockets of investor in South Africa, who wouldn't want to stay at all to keep turning in the money in dollars.
Hence, the private placement to gather fund to expand infrastructure and create more profit is not only for South Africans but for Nigerians asa well .
For the fact that MTN used its presence in Nigeria to move to the number one spot in South Africa, beating Vodacom and Telecom to other positions is a prove of the viability of this offer. In a bid to share the wealth nobody saw before now, Vodacom has fought tooth and nail without any success to be part of this massive profit emanating from Nigeria.
There is money Nigeria, but Nigerians are too blind to see it . Oh sorry i mean some Nigerians are too blind to see it . Others whose eyes have opened are set to `sell anything to acquire this wealth even if it means selling their last shoe. Well selling your shoes may not give you the wherewithal to afford the MTN private placement , it is exclusively for high net worth individuals and thats why it is not publicized , but it is a well established fact that when private placement are concluded, such shares are often downloaded on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange for trading to proceed, giving other class of investor the opportunity to also partake of this goldmine that is about to explode.
Whichever position you want to take you must stay glued to your stock broker for date, time and minimum purchase cost for the MTN private placement . Just like that of Transcorp which gave investors over 200% in profit taking after few weeks off entry into the stock exchange arena, minimum entry will be in the millions only the second stage will come low .
All the same, this is an opportunity to be part of the millions MTNhas been making in Nigeria and sending to investors in the South Africa Stock Exchange. Infact, those that have been begging for an opportunity to own shares in an internationally quoted company will now have their dream come true as MTN will now be quoted both on the Nigerian Stock Exchange and the Johannesburg Exchange.
WHERE TO GET THE PROFIT
With MTN over six millions subscribers, spending a minimum of #1,500 on air time monthly, the turnover has no choice but to load up in billions of naira and flash off its profit in millions of dollars . You can start now to load your savings for subscription to this stock as it network itself to the public reach sooner that you can ever imagine . With its initial entry strategy coming by private placement, exclusive for the rich and a very good way to scare the poor, cheap stock investors have to wait a bit longer and for penny stock investors, it is time to compound your investment in preparation forn this coming stock on the exchange . For now, it is still in the millions .
THE WORTH OF THIS STOCK
MTN as an international company quoted on the South African Stock Exchange is bound to reflect some kind of international worth in terms of share price . But no matter how highly-placed the shares will be, it is worth acquiring . This analysis is small compared to the fact on ground.
MTN's (Mobile Telephone Networks Int. Ltd) entry into the stock market is like putting a 5kg sinker into one litre glass of water, it is bound to affect the market both in weight and volume ; in terms of market capitalisation and share worth . Returns to investor with six month turnover of #90billion and profit of over #60billion was mouth-watering some few years back. This company's ability to turnover over 70 per cent of its earning into profit shows its ability to make cool money for its investors . Good management pursuing their expansion drive with all vigour and building of telecom lines across the nation were also their strength.
Because of the hidden wealth in this sector which is set to find its way to public hands, sorry i mean investing public, this private placement will be oversubscribed.
Based on the current equity base; shareholder's fund - MTN Nigeria issued a total shares of
13.74 billion structured into 76.44% MTN Int. Ltd, 20.56% Nigerian Partners and 3% Int. Finance Corporation World Bank .
The later listing of MTN on the stock exchange will give investors the opportunity to share ownership of the company through secondary market where subscription level determines the activity level of any newly listed stock on the floor of the stock exchange।
